After a week’s worth of controversial and captivating racing, the World Championships in Doha, Qatar are now officially over. With the season now finished and riders going into a much deserved period of rest, its time to look back on this season-crowning week of racing in the middle east.

We saw many new champions crowned, some retaking their titles, and others just renewing their rainbow stripes for yet another season. The controversy in Doha did cause quite a stir in the cycling community, complaints of a dull route and lack of fans began to surface early on; then came the rider safety complaints, many of the pros actually suffering from heatstroke.

Even with the majority of the racing coming under scrutiny, one cannot deny that the final day, the grandest event of them all, didn’t fail to deliver. The cross winds finally made their appearance and proceeded to rip the race apart, the winning move being orchestrated with a mammoth 180km still to ride.

Whilst it may not have lived up to the excitement and hype of Richmond, or the inevitable spectacle of Yorkshire in 2019, the World Championships in Doha will still have a small place in my cycling heart. One simply cannot forget Peter Sagan dominating the sport of cycling just that easily…

Here’s a short compilation of all the racing that occurred in Doha over the past week. Enjoy!
